Three and a half billion years ago, it was a happening place. The same time on Earth, that’s when life started. So did life start on Mars?
John M. Grunsfeld
All of the films that I’ve made are about the country I live in and grew up in… And I think if you’re going to put an artist’s eye to it, you’re going to put a critical eye to it. I’ve always been interested in the gray area that exists between the black and white, or the red and blue, and that’s where complexity lies.
All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years.

All through my life, I didn’t really consider my eyes at all, and then I became an actress. It’s great, I guess. They’re just in my face, and one is green and one is blue. It’s different, and I’m definitely a proponent of being different in any way you can in life, so I guess if you’re born a bit different that’s a good thing.

Contrary to conventional wisdom, the blue blazer’s a bit of a loose cannon. A suit decided long ago what it wanted to be, and it doesn’t want to hear your ideas, but a blue blazer only got around to half the job. So it leaves it up to you to find its bottoms. Gray slacks, blue jeans, patterns, white pants and different blue shades all work.
Cultures have long heard wisdom in non-human voices: Apollo, god of music, medicine and knowledge, came to Delphi in the form of a dolphin. David Lynch plucked me from obscurity. He cast me as the lead in ‘Dune’ and ‘Blue Velvet,’ and people have seen me as this boy-next-door-cooking-up-something-weird-in-the-basement ever since. I was 23 when I first met him, in his bungalow on the Universal lot, and could never have predicted we would have such an enduring relationship.

Don’t eat shrimp – it’s one of the most unsustainable fish. For every pound that’s caught, 10 or 20 pounds of other stuff is killed and dumped back overboard. It’s the number one killer of juvenile sea turtles in Mexico. Two good sustainable seafood guides that I’d recommend are from the Monterey Bay Aquarium and the Blue Ocean Institute.

Even though I support the blue side of Manchester’s football heritage, I don’t really mind that wherever I go in the world it’s not Manchester City that starts the conversation. ‘Ah, yes, Manchester United,’ is the response when I say where I come from. It’s commonplace everywhere – in Europe, Africa, Asia and even the U.S.
Even though shows like NYPD Blue are soaps in my opinion, but they’re individualized to an extent that you can still follow what’s going on if you miss a week.

Everybody needs to show respect to each others’ ways and the cultural life that you get on this planet. Don’t get caught up on ‘I’m brown, black, white, red, blue, whatever.’ You gotta ask, what were you called before 1492? All these names we’re using now are just an illusion made to keep us fighting each other.
Everyone always asks, ‘Did you ever rebel? Did you dye your hair blue? Did you wear black nail polish?’ I mean, of course, there have been episodes when you wear weird-colored lipstick… But generally, I think I was pretty much the way I am now.

Films I’ve really liked are when you’ve walked out and you’re still in that movie for a while. That’s virtual reality for me, to go into a theatre, especially with the use of sound – a subconscious thing that’s underestimated. I remember seeing ‘Blue Velvet’ when I was 15, and half the audience walking out, but I thought my life had changed.
For blue eyes, use warm browns, peaches, and yellows to compliment the eyes. Brown and hazel eyes sparkle in blue and purple shades, which flatters the orange undertone of brown eyes. Green eyes stand out in burgundy and plum shades like CoverGirl Queen Collection Vivid Impact Eyeliner in Cabernet.
For like everyday, just kind of hanging out, I love flannels. Part of my closet, there’s a whole section of flannels because I love them so much. Slouchy, oversized hats and fedoras. I just got these 2 amazing hats that I really love, blue and gold trim with woven material by D&Y. I love D&Y hats.

For my birthday this year, my girlfriends – who knew I’d just inherited my dad’s turntable – gave me a carton of albums like ‘Blue Kentucky Girl,’ by Emmylou Harris, and ‘Off the Wall,’ by Michael Jackson. It’s all stuff we grew up with. I mean, you can’t have a music collection without Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ – it just can’t be done!

From the political angle, I’m trying to be apolitical if you will. I mean people say, ‘Are you a red state or blue state?’, I say, ‘I’m purple.’ I think there are great ideas on both sides of the aisle and neither side has cornered the market.
Gathering Blue’ was a separate book. I wanted to explore what a society might become after a catastrophic world event. Only at the end did I realize I could make it connect to ‘The Giver.’

Growing up in the ’80s in central New Jersey as a weird kid with a blue mohawk listening to the Sex Pistols and dressing really funky, I was bullied pretty badly. Growing up training, I use to get up so early I would wave to the garbage men going by. So, I had this relationship with Blue Collar America and I really liked it. I felt that lots of those people looked forward to me winning.
Growing up, I wasn’t allowed dolls, and my brothers weren’t allowed guns. I inherited my brothers’ clothes. I was never dressed in pink, and they were never dressed in blue; there were none of those rules that people still bizarrely subscribe to.
Growing up, I watched softball and U.S.A .softball, and that was my goal of being able to represent my country and wear the red, white, and blue out there, and I think it is one of the highest honors to be able to go out there and compete for your country, and it was something so very special, and it was everything I dreamt of and more.

How much do you have to pay someone to be in a George Clooney/Alexander Payne film? Nothing! Because everyone in the world wants to be a part of it. Therefore you pay nothing. And that continues until you become something they need… I’m not that kind of actor. I’m blue collar and very replaceable.
How prone poor Humanity is to dam up the minutest remnants of its freedom, and build an artificial roof to prevent it looking up to the clear blue sky.
E. T. A. Hoffmann
I always do book signings with the same blue pen. That way, if I add a personalised message to a book I’ve already signed, it’ll be in the same colour as my signature.
I always had influences musically with punk, and then growing up, I dyed my hair every color. I did the dip-dye blue, before anybody was dip-dyeing their hair. And streaks of pinks and purples and whatnot.

I am focusing more on overseas gigs, as my international fans do not get a chance to be a part of my live concerts, as they visit India once in a blue moon.
I am not in the business of pointing fingers or making excuses. However, recent history has shown that I, like thousands of others in Ireland, incorrectly relied upon the persons who guided Anglo and who wrongfully sought to portray a ‘blue chip’ Irish banking sector.
I am not proposing to seek your votes because there is a blue sky ahead today.
I bleed Dodger blue and when I die, I’m going to the big Dodger in the sky.

I can’t stress how much my daughter is an inspiration to stay sober. When I come home and she opens those big blue eyes at me, it’s the most amazing feeling I could ever feel.
A. J. McLean
I chose as the campaign logo a blue rose, which means ‘make possible the impossible.’ I think the British with Brexit, then the Americans with the election of Donald Trump, did that: They made possible the impossible.
Marine Le Pen
I come from a blue collar family, but my personal life isn’t. I didn’t get the gene that my grandfather had in spades. He was a local hero. Built the church that I went to. Built the house I grew up in. Steamfitter, pipefitter, electrician, mechanic and plumber. I wanted to do those things. But it just didn’t come easy.
I come to Jerusalem. There, the sky is blue and memory becomes clear.

David O. Russell
I did so many interviews and auditions for films, and it was just zilch. Nothing I did impressed anybody! I could just feel it. It was always, ‘Okay, thank you, Mr. Lloyd.’ Then, out of the blue, ‘Cuckoo’s Nest’ came to cast. A casting director who sent me up for different things over the years sent me up for that, and it just clicked.
I do love horror movies, but I’m not the kind of guy who would dress up as a ghoul for Halloween. I might go as a member of the Blue Man Group.
I do prime time network shows like ‘Blue Bloods.’ I’ve done ‘Fringe,’ I’ve done ‘The Good Wife,’ done a lot of ‘The Mentalist.’

I do so many things. Like when I was younger, if I drove past a house that I didn’t want to live in, I’d hold my breath. Driving around somewhere like Slough I’d go blue in the face.
Jessica Brown Findlay
I don’t drink coffee. Weird, I know. But I try to stay away from caffeine. That said, we are investors in Blue Bottle, which is delicious!
I don’t even know why, but I’ve just always done it – I don’t walk on handicapped parking spaces. I don’t like to step on the blue lines. I always step over them. I don’t know what the deal is. I don’t know if it’s a fear of injury, or a disrespectful thing, or if I just don’t want to think about something like that happening.
I don’t know all the future steps, but I know one of them: we need to build a low-cost, highly operable, reusable launch vehicle. No matter which path we take, it has to include that gate, and so that’s why that’s Blue Origin’s mission.
I don’t know what my appeal is. I can see I’ve got blue eyes and don’t look like the Hunchback of Notre Dame but I can’t understand the fuss.

I don’t think the philosophy really changes between men and women. I think golf courses need to become more distance-friendly overall. I think golf courses almost need to develop a more generic set of tees instead of calling them black, blue, red or whatever.
I don’t use blue. I don’t like it. It bugs me out. I hate it.
I dress in my ‘uniform,’ or my own dress code, which reflects my personal method and work ethic. My belief is that my plain T-shirt – I have about 40 of them – or blue sweater helps focus others’ attention on me and on what I say.
I find it harder and harder every day to live up to my blue china.
I fought violently for the autonomy of architecture. It’s a very passive, weak profession where people deliver a service. You want a blue door, you get a blue door. You want it to look neo-Spanish, you get neo-Spanish. Architecture with any authenticity represents resistance. Resistance is a good thing.
I get recognized for ‘Reaper’ in the U.K. I was in Costa Rica and got recognized for ‘Heroes.’ In Canada, it’s ‘Rookie Blue.’ People also think that I’m in the ‘Twilight’ series because of Kristen Stewart.
I get to act out two roles on ‘The Legend of the Blue Sea,’ including one as a con man, and so I’ll be able to show many diverse sides to me.

I go to the Natural History Museum and look at the cage of stuffed starlings there. But my favourite thing is the big blue whale. The scale of it is unbelievable, and makes you feel how insignificant you are as a human being.
I got a phone call from Douglas Campbell and from Jerome Guthrie, who offered me a job out of the blue.
I got sent to a health camp when I was about 6 years old, and we all had to wear the same starchy blue uniform. The lady who took care of me after school knit me a burgundy sweater. It was the only thing that gave me any individuality.

I grew up in an upper-middle-class town with a population around 12,000. My high school held around a thousand kids. All smart. We had a strict dress code. If you wore blue jeans to school, they sent you home.
I had the misfortune of getting what skateboarders call hippers. It’s when you fall on your hip again and again and again, just the same spot. It turns into like a blue purple bruise and it’s just torture because I had to keep on doing the same move, going around in the pool again.
I have a great plain blue shirt from APC, and a denim one from Dolce that I wear constantly. It’s hard to find the perfect denim shirt, but this is it.
I have a huge rib cage, which is why I can hold a note out until I’m blue in the face… because I have such a big lung capacity.
I have a lovely light blue Kate Spade wallet. It has pockets for many credit cards, business cards, health insurance cards, and a Burke Williams card for when I want to go to the spa!
Aja Naomi King
I have been black and blue in some spot, somewhere, almost all my life from too intimate contacts with my own furniture.
Frank Lloyd Wright
I have been skiing since I was in school, but I’m not great. I am never going to break an Olympic record, I just want to go down the hills, on red or blue runs, but not… black.
I have blonde hair and blue eyes, and whenever I tell people I’m Greek, they don’t believe me.
I have blue eyes, and before I knew anything about fashion – I’m talking about the second grade – I learned I would get a compliment if I wore a blue shirt.
B. J. Novak
I have learned how to wrestle. You end up battered and blue – but so happy.
I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.
Yves Saint Laurent
I have reached a state in life where I can buy a whole house full of chairs and can bump into them until they are black and blue.
I have some wonderful friends from the Mideast that are as red, white and blue as anybody you know, that have been harassed, and I think it’s a terrible, terrible thing.
I have the soundtrack for ‘A Clockwork Orange,’ which is kind of cool. I guess I don’t really end up buying a lot of modern soundtracks. Another soundtrack I love is from a French movie called ‘Betty Blue.’ it has some really melancholy piano work.
I have the worst ear for criticism; even when I have created a stage set I like, I always hear the woman in the back of the dress circle who says she doesn’t like blue.
I have very little fashion sense, and to tell you the truth, I give it very little thought. I dress to be as comfortable as I possibly can. Most of my clothing is either black, grey, or dark blue, and I don’t really wear a lot of colours. But I do like jackets. I have a little bit of an obsession with them.
I have wondered sometimes if there are not perhaps some disadvantages in having really blue blood in one’s veins, like grandmamma and me.
I just finished a film with Michael Radford called Dancing at the Blue Iguana.
I just start with a pencil and paper. I don’t want something too trendy, too fashion-forward. I don’t want to make something I consider a regular person couldn’t wear with blue jeans. But I don’t want to make something that other people make, either – like a skinny black suit in a shiny material that you can buy anywhere.
I learned really valuable lessons from ‘Blue’s Clues.’ I’d repeat them every day. ‘You can do things. You are smart.’
I learned to play drums to the ‘Blue Album.’
I like almost everything, even country twang, disco, blue grass and accordions.
I like blue a lot, and greens. Earthy blues and greens.
I like to be very girly, with bows and ruffles on the red carpet. I love pastel colours, especially blue. Me and my sister both because of our eyes look good in blues.
I liked the more sophisticated urban style of blues like Ray Charles and B. B. King, Bobby Blue Bland, Lou Rawls; people like that with more of a tendency toward jazz.
I live for those who love me, for those who know me true, for the heaven so blue above me, and the good that I can do.
George Linnaeus Banks
I live in jeans, mainly Wrangler and Nudie. I like them as dark blue as they’ll go and tightly woven.
I looked along the San Juan Islands and the coast of California, but I couldn’t find the palette of green, granite, and dark blue that you can only find in Maine.
I love life. There’s so much to learn and see all the time, and nothing nicer for me than to wake up, and the sky is blue.
I love the ocean. I’ve always liked the blue, so tranquil and peaceful and gliding. And the fear of it.
I love the Ronettes, the ‘do-run-run-run’ pop stuff. I love the lyrics, having ‘blue, blue blue’ being repetitive.
I love to fish. You can go hours without anything happening, and all of a sudden a big blue marlin comes into the spread and it’s cockpit chaos. My dream is to catch a grander, a 1,000 pounder.
I loved ‘Blue Velvet.’
I met Prince William at a musical festival and he let me know he was a fan of my music. But the invitation to sing at his wedding reception came completely out of the blue. The fact that Kate and William knew the words to my songs was very touching.
I need to have a quick wardrobe. Two or three blazers with dark gray pants, two pairs of jeans, two light blue shirts, a casual shirt, two pairs of shoes, one formal one not. Small accessories like Tod’s Greca belt and our woven bracelets for a wild touch.
Diego Della Valle
I never owned a pair of blue jeans until I met my second wife.
I never want to get a job because I’m female. I want to get it because I earned it and I deserve it… Whether my hair is going to be blue or purple, people should be judged on how well they do the job and deliver results and whether they do it the right way. That’s how I like to be judged; most people are like that.
I often think to myself, at the end of an interesting life it’s maybe not such a bad thing to spend your last days with your friends sitting by the blue, blue ocean reliving the story of your life while sitting in the dangerous sun.
I performed after 9/11 for relief workers down by Ground Zero. There were these men just coming back, and they were voraciously hungry. They were heroes, pulling rubble, and I was a new comic trying to go blue just so I could get some laughs.
I personally found ‘Avatar’ – the blue people, to me, looked like painted art from the seventies. It didn’t have the realism as, say, the robotic machines.
I prefer to make my own coffee at home because I love the experience of measuring out the beans and finding the right grind setting, messing with water amounts, etc. It’s truly an art form, and I’m obsessed with it. In L.A., I love Blue Bottle and Intelligentsia and used to hang at Bru in Los Feliz.
I put a limited time on the blues. I say, ‘I allowed myself to be blue for four hours, and now I’m going to stop.’
I questioned everything. I didn’t see a character developed in Platoon at all. The character in Blue Velvet was much more fascinating to me.
I remember one night, my parents were out at a function of some kind and I had just gotten cable in my room. That was a big deal, and I saw ‘Blue Velvet’ on HBO. It blew my mind in a way that I don’t think children’s minds are supposed to be blown, but they probably shouldn’t be watching ‘Blue Velvet.’
I remember when we had to pick our major freshman year, I chose comparative religion. It came to me out of the blue. I am amazed at how interested I still am in those ideas, especially the way spirituality is expressed in the world and in art.
I remember with ‘Ratcatcher,’ in the script it was beautiful blue skies and sunny every day, but it rained constantly. You have to go with what the film is going to be.
I saw a picture of Elvis in blue lame, and thought that if I could recreate that suit and walk down the King’s Road in it, someone might pick me up and take me off on a crazy adventure.
I sell blue sky and coloured air.
I shot ‘Blue Valentine’ on 16mm for the past, and for the present on the Red Camera. I feel that both formats are valid. The stories should dictate the format we shoot on. Filmmakers should have a choice.
I ski every three years or so. I don’t have the ingrained confidence that others do, but I’ll happily toddle about a green or blue run.
I slowly started to drift back into music again. I finally got the call from John… about getting the band back together again. It was so out of the blue. I almost thought that the moment had passed.
Roger Andrew Taylor
I spent four months in Prague in these blue rooms reacting to nothing and you basically place your faith in the hands of the director and the special effects co-coordinator and you keep your fingers crossed and hope that the creatures look really scary.
I started teaching myself guitar because I loved singing so much. Then one day kind of out of the blue I found I was writing a song. It just happened organically.
I started to take care of my body after I turned 50. I never liked how I looked physically because I was too cute, short, with coloring only on my cheeks, the perfect little nose, and then the blue eyes. I was a hit with girls, who told me it was like I was in Technicolor.
I swam with my first shark in the 1980s. I was 20 miles off the coast of Rhode Island, working with a group of marine scientists. Late in the day, a 5-foot long blue shark swam into our chum slick. For the next hour, I marveled at the animal’s stunning indigo color and the elegant way she moved effortlessly through the sea.
I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes.
e. e. cummings
I think a lot of people think I was born in a blue suit, on the David Brinkley show. And that isn’t me. I am much more that kid who grew up in South St. Louis, in a very modest household, with a simple background with parents who didn’t get through high school.
I think as a Canadian hockey player, you go through it in your mind so many times, being able to stand on that blue line and hear your national anthem play and being a gold medal champion, you dream of that. And then to be able to accomplish that and actually win a gold medal and represent your country its an amazing feeling.
I think ‘Beyond the Blue Neon’ is the best I’ve ever done.
I think coding is gonna become the blue collar work of the future.
I think I have something tonight that’s not quite correct for evening wear. Blue suede shoes.
I think if you look all across the country, the so-called Blue Dogs are all gone to kennel. There are no more Blue Dogs, they’re called Republicans. People would rather elect consistently conservative Republicans than Blue Dogs, who are only conservative when it’s convenient.
I think my message goes out to the entire spectrum of political parties. I’m supported by the Tea Party, the Conservative Party and the Republican Party. I come from a Democratic world. My world is moderate Democrats, Reagan-type Democrats if you want, the blues or whatever you call them, the Blue Dogs. That’s been my world, historically.
I think swag is very important to rappers. It’s the overall appearance and style of an artist – these blue shorts and this blue hat and this $80,000 chain, this jewelry and all these tattoos, that’s swag.
I think the Internet is an awful lot like FM radio was when it broke out in the late ’60s. It’s kind of a wild and wily kind of format. They could play 20 songs in a row that had the word ‘blue’ in them, or whatever they wanted to do.
I thought I had a chest infection and went to the doctor – five days later I was under the knife. It came completely out of the blue. My arteries were 95% blocked.
I thought I was prepared for space, and it still absolutely defied every expectation and dream. It is an incredible thing to put yourself on a rocket and launch off the planet. It is an amazing thing to see the planet from space. This blue sphere is almost indescribably beautiful.
I understand now why Hillary Clinton always wore navy blue pantsuits. Remember, for four years? If you have one or two themes, then you have the same shoes, the same bag. Otherwise, it’s a nightmare.
I used to audition for ‘NYPD Blue’ quite a bit, so I had this stock New York detective character that I would bring in for all their auditions.
I used to have this Mercedes, a dark blue 450SLC, which was the most beautiful car. I’d like to have another unusual, beautiful car.
I used to play too with a boy who played a saxophone. We didn’t play no blues, we’d play a lot of love songs – ‘Stardust’, ‘Blue Moon’, ‘Out Cold Again’, ‘Sophisticated Lady’, ‘Stars Fell On Alabama’, a lot of different stuff.
I used to take formal notes in lines of blue, and underline the key words in red, and I realised I needed only the key words and the idea. Then to bring in connections, I drew arrows and put in images and codes. It was a picture outside my head of what was inside my head – ‘mind map’ is the language my brain spoke.
I want to die with my blue jeans on.
I wanted to be like my friends. I hung out with girls who had blue eyes and blond hair and I thought, ‘I want to look like them!’
I wanted to play blues. But I wasn’t blue enough. I wasn’t like Muddy Waters, people who really had it hard. In our house, we had food on the table. We were doing well compared to many. So I concentrated on this fun and frolic, these novelties.
I wanted to write a book that talked about the emotions of children, which is the rainbow. We all have moods. We talk about being blue when we’re sad, and being yellow when we’re cowards, and when we’re mad, we’re red.
I was a big ‘Blue Valentine’ fan. I really loved that movie. And I thought the performances were just unbelievably real, which is certainly what I always strive for in my work.
I was a goth in my student days. I dyed my hair black, but it came out grey, with a blue scalp. Then I dyed it red and it came out fuschia pink.
I was a schooled musician. When I made ‘Blue Velvet’, I told everyone what to do. I was an arranger. I learned music in school I told the band to play this. I told the guitar to do that.
I was able to represent my country and put on the red, white, and blue – how many people in the world get to do that? Standing on the podium with my teammates, and being the first women’s gymnastics team to win this gold medal, it was life-changing!
I was appointed Poet Laureate. It came totally out of the blue because most Poet Laureates had been considerably older than I. It was not something that I even had begun to dream about!
I was black and blue for about two years, but it’s paid off tremendously. You know, if you get enough whacks, your reflexes pick up, and I’ve become quite good – if somebody throws keys or something, I can catch them.
I was convinced that acting was for fools. I was on the stage when I was eight with my father, he was playing one of those Greek blind guys that sees things and warns people, whilst I was in a blue skirt. I think there were 5,000 people in the theatre, it was ridiculous.
I was feeling kind of lonely and started singing All alone at the end of the evening, and the bright lights have faded to blue.’ And it went from there.
I was halfway through writing a gothic, country house mystery when, out of the blue, I received an email inviting me to audition for the ITV show, ‘Popstar To Operastar.’
I was looking at a photograph of the 1997 election campaign yesterday, and I thought: ‘My God. Did I really have that hairstyle? And that Tory blue suit?’
I was pleasantly disappointed on entering Bohemia. Instead of a dull, uninteresting country, as I expected, it is a land full of the most lovely scenery. There is every thing which can gratify the eye – high blue mountains, valleys of the sweetest pastoral look and romantic old ruins.
I was raised Catholic, and I remember in all the pamphlets and pictures we’d look at, Jesus was basically blonde with blue eyes. He kind of looked like Jared Leto.
I was really into punk. I was 11 years old; I had a blue mohican.
I was roundly criticized for being in and around rock & roll music at its inception. It was the devil’s music: it would make your teeth fall out and your hair turn blue, whatever the hell. You get through that.
I was standing on the deck of the USS Blue, a destroyer. We were all alone out there at this buoy, tied up.
I was starting to become impotent through this diet and couldn’t perform. How many people who are taking the little blue pill, if they started to change what they are eating most of the time, could change the way their sex life is?
I was trained in classical piano, but it kind of dawned on me that classical pianists compete for six job openings a year, and the rest of us get to play ‘Blue Moon’ in a hotel lobby.
I wasn’t naked, I was completely covered by a blue spotlight.
Gypsy Rose Lee
I wear a lot of block colour dresses on television as the simplicity translates well on camera and blue is often a colour I rely on as it goes with everything.
I wear black because I’m comfortable in it. But then in the summertime when it’s hot I’m comfortable in light blue.
I wear pink on Saturdays for breast cancer, and I wear blue on Sundays. I’m superstitious. At the Evian tournament in 2010, in which I came in second, I wore baby blue on a Sunday. And ever since then, I’ve worn it every Sunday. Puma sponsors me, so I wear all their outfits in bright colors. I wear matching hair ribbons, too.
I will do water – beautiful, blue water.
I will try to cram these paragraphs full of facts and give them a weight and shape no greater than that of a cloud of blue butterflies.
I wish everything was gender neutral. I wish we weren’t separated by boundaries like pink and blue and little things like that. I wish we could choose how we express ourselves without hate.
I wish I could write ‘Taxi Driver,’ or ‘Blue Velvet,’ something brave, audacious, dramatic and dark. I don’t know if I have the darkness in my own soul to be able to tap into it, unfortunately.
I wish I had invented blue jeans. They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.
Yves Saint Laurent
I won all the blue ribbons for canning at the state fair.
I wore an Urban Outfitters dress on my wedding day. It was one I had in the back of my wardrobe. It was white. We went to City Hall here in New York. I wore it with blue velvet boots my husband bought for me. I loved it. It was my favorite thing. It was chilled and spontaneous.
I wore my first pair of Louboutins during this press tour. It was absolutely amazing, they weren’t heels, they were little shoes, but they were velvet and they were blue.
Chloe Grace Moretz
I work in a room overlooking the river. I try to get to my desk as soon as I’ve fed my cats and chickens. I use a blue 3B pencil and scribble away for about 20 pages before transferring it to the computer.
I worked on ‘Blue Peter’ and ‘Tonight’ and lots of TV plays, filmed people like Rudolf Nureyev and Ted Heath, and ended up a senior cameraman with my own crew. I’d had my first short story published in 1947, and when my writing really started to take off I decided to go freelance, and eventually left the BBC in 1965.
I would wear the blue overalls of the fieldworker and often wore round, rimless glasses known as Mazzawati teaglasses. I had a car, and I wore a chauffeur’s cap with my overalls. The pose of chauffeur was convenient because I could travel under the pretext of driving my master’s car.
I wouldn’t call myself a synaesthete in the sense that Nabokov was. But I’ll talk about a sound as being cold blue or dark brown. For descriptive purposes, yes, I often see colors when I’m listening to music and think, ‘Oh, there’s not enough sort of yellowy stuff in here, or not enough white.’
I wouldn’t think I would coach again, because it would just be hard not being in the Cowboys’ blue.
I wrote ‘The Blue Sweater’ to inspire more people to become engaged in working to solve the problems of global poverty.
I’d always thought that ‘NYPD Blue’ really would open those doors. While I think it created a much broader template for cable, I don’t think it really did that much for network television.
I’d like to be a geneticist to be honest, but there are limits to what I can do now. For my dream to come true I’d have to be 20 years old again, heading off to a blue chip university.
If I let a blue mood run rampant, before I know it I’m obsessing about the color of the satin lining in my coffin – will it match my dress? That’s when I feel like Alice in Cancerland falling down the rabbit hole and just have to stop.
If I’m receiving an email from a stranger, I usually like it to be properly thoughtful and explanatory, and not just hitting someone up for a casual favor out of the blue who you’ve never met before. I really believe in manners.
If Jesus Christ came back today, He and I would get into our brown corduroys and go to the nearest jean store and overturn the racks of blue denim.
If life is going well, I watch quality things like period dramas and ‘The Blue Planet.’ But other times, I’ll trawl through anything Freeview has to offer. I do believe TV can ruin your mind, but it can also be a really good friend.
If people don’t vote, everything stays the same. You can protest until the sky turns yellow or the moon turns blue, and it’s not going to change anything if you don’t vote.
If the dinosaurs are any indication, there’s a place in our pantheon for the extinct. My son has a blue plushy allosaurus he calls Spot-Spot, with whom he often sleeps.
If the record was picked up by Dot Records, I would imagine that they would have wanted both sides of the record to be something by Lou alone which would account for the dropping of ‘So Blue’.
If the sight of the blue skies fills you with joy, if a blade of grass springing up in the fields has power to move you, if the simple things of nature have a message that you understand, rejoice, for your soul is alive.
If you want to be a professional writer then you need to write consistently. Inspiration strikes about once every blue moon which, for me, is once every two and a half to three months, which is when I’ll get really and truly inspired about something.
If you want to slice into America, it’s pretty red, white, and blue in terms of how it goes about things, but there’s a gray area there, and I’ve always been interested in where things are complicated.
If you’re feeling blue, lock yourself in a room, stand in front of a mirror, and dance – and laugh at yourself and be sexy. Dance the silliest and ugliest you’ve ever danced. Make fun of yourself and try to recover your sense of humor.
If you’re white and you’re wrong, then you’re wrong; if you’re black and you’re wrong, you’re wrong. People are people. Black, blue, pink, green – God make no rules about color; only society make rules where my people suffer, and that why we must have redemption and redemption now.
If you’ve never feared the police – if you don’t get a dull ache in the pit of your stomach when you see red and blue flashing lights, even when you know you’re not doing anything wrong – consider yourself lucky.
I’ll never forget during the ‘Descendants’ parade at Disneyland when I waved at a girl with bright blue hair and witnessed her dream being realized and the involuntary tears that followed.
I’ll never throw away my blue jeans.
I’m a bit of an M&M nut. I like the blue ones. I pick them out.
I’m a ‘blue sky thinker’ and dream big.
I’m a dark blonde, yes. I dyed my hair blue, then black, when I was 14. I thought the colour was more flattering and matched my skin tone. I don’t think I’d ever change back unless it was for a film.
I’m a human being first and foremost, and I have something to say that I think is worthwhile. ‘Blue Caprice’ is just the second installment of so much more coming.
I’m a mac and cheese freak. Homemade or from the blue box, I’m not picky!
I’m a wonderful editor. That’s what I do best. I know exactly what I want. If I have to decide whether to wear the red dress or the blue dress or what should I have said, I am constantly changing my mind.
I’m going to always bleed the red, white, and blue. I represented the U.S. in the Olympics; I love my country. But the U.S. fans will love you on Monday; if you lose, they’ll hate you on Tuesday. If you win, it will be back to loving you on Wednesday.
Floyd Mayweather, Jr.
I’m good in summer. My birthday is in summer. I don’t like it when it’s too hot, but, you know, blue skies, I think people genuinely loosen up a bit, and it’s nicer.
I’m in love with red. I think it’s such a passionate color. Every flag of every country pretty much has red it it. It’s power, there’s no fence sitting with red. Either you love it or you don’t. I think its blood and strength and life. I do love red. I love all colors. Great shades of blue, you find them in nature. They’re all magic.
I’m in my father’s car at age 9 or 10 crying to Leonard Cohen’s ‘Famous Blue Raincoat,’ thinking that you could write nearly a love letter to a man who betrayed you by having an affair with your wife. I was thinking how wonderful and pure music can be for explaining situations.
I’m into a casual-dressing girl: blue jeans and a tank top is super sexy. But the sexiest thing on a girl – when I see it I’m like, oh my God – is these little tight boxers. Don’t get me wrong, g-strings are fine, but those cover a little, to where it’s just enough.
I’m into a casual-dressing girl: blue jeans and a tank top is super sexy.
I’m just a Connecticut country boy. The people I’ve known, the changes of season, the call of the blue jay – when I’m away, all of them haunt me.
I’m nostalgic for the future I knew as a kid. Back then, it was a lovely, bleepy, heavenly land populated by svelte men in white polo necks, who would lounge on big white sofas sipping blue wine from big glass globes, beside women like the ones on the covers of Hedkandi chill out compilations.
I’m not a fan of what we call ‘friendly fire’ or ‘blue on blue.’ We don’t want to have that.
I’m not a fashion architect. I don’t dress in Ralph Lauren and Gucci. When I buy a suit, I buy it at J. Press. I have a blue blazer that I wear 80 percent of the time.
I’m not dead and I don’t have blue hair but some people say there are similarities. It is usually intolerable to watch myself onscreen but this time it’s fine. I think it’s beautiful and a real work of art.
Helena Bonham Carter
I’m not the least bit polished, I come from a blue collar background and I never thought I could feel comfortable around the English.
I’m not too modest of a person. I’ve got a pretty blue sense of humor.
I’m quite British; I’ve got big, flat feet, and I can’t wear heels. I’ve got very, very pale Celtic skin, so my legs are always a frightening blue color. So when you take out clothes that reveal your legs, shoes that have any kind of heel, no shop will actually take my money.
I’m sad and blue, about nobody but you. I told you that I loved you right from the start, you told me the same and now you try to break my little heart.
I’m sick of watching ‘Blue Lives Matter’ supporters idly stand by any police officer simply because he wears blue, ignoring the facts that should make them cringe in disbelief and horror. Police brutality is systemic, not anecdotal.
I’m the worst. I get on my Instagram, put up a picture of my face looking all cheekbones and blue steel, and get massive dopamine hits when I see the likes come in.
Imagine Texas as a blue state: how hard it would be to carry the presidency or gain control of the Senate.
In ’57, I got a job at the Blue Angel nightclub, and a gentleman named Ken Welch wrote all my material for me. I lived at a place called the Rehearsal Club that was actually the basis for a play called Stage Door.
In age of consumerism and materialism, I traffic in blue sky and colored air.
In all, I was in 16 movies, including ‘The Bishop’s Wife’ with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven; I was in ‘Rio Grande’ with John Wayne, ‘Albuquerque’ with Randall Scott, ‘Blue Skies’ with Bing Crosby and ‘Hans Christian Anderson’ with Danny Kaye.
In Asia, red is the colour of joy; red is the colour of festivities and of celebration. In Chinese culture, blue is the colour of mourning.
In coming to the Congress as a new Member and becoming a fellow Blue Dog, we have had an opportunity to share and really spend a great deal of time in examining the challenges that our Nation finds itself in in getting its fiscal house in order.
In Jiu-Jitsu, every instinct you have wants to do everything but relax or breathe when someone’s attacking you, and learning that takes a long time. I think that’s why a lot of people stop at blue belt because it’s really hard to do. It’s hard to take that next step. It took me a long time.
In the 1960s, if you were a blue collar worker or uneducated, and you had an injury on the job, the company basically dismissed you.
In the late 1960s, red and the low green LEDs and the infrared semiconductor lasers had already been developed, but there was no prospect of practical blue light emitters, even in the ’70s.
In ‘The Sound of Music,’ I was a von Trapp daughter in a white dress with a blue satin sash, and my line was, ‘I’m Brigitta. I’m 12, and all I want is a good time.’ I got a laugh. And I was so delighted, I laughed, too. Sadly, that’s a problem I still have – onstage, I laugh hysterically at how funny I am.
In this watering-place I acted an heroic character, badly studied; and being a novice on such a stage, I forgot my part before a pair of lovely blue eyes.
Adelbert von Chamisso
Island of the Blue Dolphins’ by Scott O’Dell had a huge impact on me.
It is hard to play Blue Suede Shoes. I know everyone has heard it 10 million times, and that makes it even harder to play it, but there’s a very laid back tempo on that. I was surprised at how slow it really was.
It never crossed my mind to make a film about Muhammad Ali or the Queen or any of them! They just come out of the blue.
It suddenly struck me that that tiny pea, pretty and blue, was the Earth. I put up my thumb and shut one eye, and my thumb blotted out the planet Earth. I didn’t feel like a giant. I felt very, very small.
It took me three weeks to write the ‘Rhapsody in Blue.’ I had always wanted to write something blue and Paul Whiteman inspired.
It was a gradual process, realising I was different. I remember at primary school getting a worksheet with sums printed on it. I thought that they must have run out of the right colour inks and sizes for the numbers, because they were all the same, which isn’t how I experienced numbers at all. To me, nine is big and blue.
It was Apollo 8 that first showed us the tiny blue marble of Earth floating in the void of space, one of the great psychological shifts in human history. From out there, we can both appreciate and begin to solve the problems of our world in ways unavailable to us otherwise.
It was close to like a 67- or 70-day shoot for ‘Tron’ on stage, in the suit. You can’t even sit down during the day because of all the cables that divide the foam rubber and all the electrical circuits. We had these stools that were tall with a bicycle seat on them and you’re just looking at a blue screen all day.
It was morning; through the high window I saw the pure, bright blue of the sky as it hovered cheerfully over the long roofs of the neighboring houses. It too seemed full of joy, as if it had special plans, and had put on its finest clothes for the occasion.
It wasn’t until I was 35 or 36, when I wrote ‘Danny and the Deep Blue Sea,’ that I began to get some notoriety, though I only made $5,000.
John Patrick Shanley
It’s a blue album, but it’s not a blues album. I’m not pretending all of a sudden now I’m blues.
It’s a cliche, but true, that writing is intensely solitary and at times really lonely. I sit in one room and talk to squirrels and blue jays all day.
It’s a very confusing experience living as a woman in Japan. If your husband is white-collar, the wife is blue. Even if you marry a person of status, the wife inevitably remains a rung below.
It’s always an uphill battle. You know, I’m a Republican in Maryland. This is the bluest of the blue.
It’s hard to reinvent the wheel with a cop show. But ‘Rookie Blue’ has a pure emotional center that’s not cynical.

It’s important to slow down, every now and then, for no other reason than to call someone to say ‘Hi.’ It doesn’t have to be a long conversation. Just calling out of the blue does more to let someone know you still care about them than nearly anything else.

I’ve built my wardrobe color palette around red, so I’m happy with it, but I do get pangs when I see beautiful brunettes. I’ve already been blue, green, black, and blonde.
I’ve not been an admirer of contemporary music since punk rock went off the boil in 1977, but once a year I’ll listen to ‘Spiral Scratch’ by the Buzzcocks, or ‘Hippy Hippy Shake’ by the Swinging Blue Jeans. Otherwise, I can put up with Chopin or shakuhachi flute in the background.
I’ve only had one platinum album, and it’s ‘Red River Blue’.
I’ve written some songs that are pretty scary, but ‘Jessica,’ ‘Ramblin’ Man,’ and ‘Blue Sky’ are happy songs. That’s the way I wrote them: have-fun tunes to make you feel good.
Jet Blue is my preferred airline. I love the cleanliness, technology, and the staff is always wonderful.

Listen, if you said to me, ‘Adam Shankman is going to direct you in a musical and you have six months to learn how to tap,’ I’d practice till I was blue in the face. I would do it because I’m so headstrong and think I can do anything. But just to show up and sing a little ditty, no.
Los Angeles, the sun shines a lot, and it’s blue, and there’s palm trees; it’s a bit like Sydney, I guess, but the underbelly is a vicious, mean, cruel, awful place.
Loudon Wainwright III
Lucasfilm called me out of the blue, and I almost hung up because I thought it was a practical joke. This was right before ‘Revenge Of The Sith’ came out. Here you are, a big ‘Star Wars’ fan, talking about ‘Star Wars’ all the time, and you have your master replica lightsaber, and then you get a call from Lucasfilm for a job?
Mandela once phoned me out of the blue while he was still president, and at first he played with me a bit.
More than anything else, my mother wanted to be an actress – a famous actress – which in the 1950s was all about being young, sexy, and available. She was all that, and more. She had big blue eyes, alabaster skin, a heart-shaped face, a beautiful figure. She was just a knockout.
Most Americans in both red and blue states reject and resent the message being sent by Hollywood and some in the media that values are subjective, to be defined by the individual and not by God.
Most coaches would consider leading a team to an Olympic gold medal a capper for a pretty good year. The same goes for winning an NCAA national championship. Or a FIBA world championship. Mike Krzyzewski, head coach of the Duke Blue Devils and Team USA, led teams to each of these honors… within about 24 months.
Most of the songs I sing, they have that blue feeling to it. They have that sorry feeling. And I don’t know what I’m sorry about.

My dream date is a tall, dark, handsome, blue eyed man with a bubble butt who will whisk me away to Paris in a hot air balloon to wine me, dine me and.
My English was limited to vacationing and not really engaging with Americans. I knew ‘shopping’ and ‘eating’ English – I could say ‘blue sweater,’ ‘creme brulee,’ and ‘Caesar salad,’ – so I came here thinking I spoke English.
My essentials are skinny jeans, loose-fitting tees, big jumpers, and the leather jacket. Everything is black or blue – I don’t own anything colorful.
Jamie Campbell Bower

My family is Chilean, and I was born there. By the time I was four, we were living in San Antonio, Texas, and I just remember picking a blue bonnet and getting yelled at by some guy with a sheriff hat and a badge. I was traumatized. He told me it was the state flower, and I wasn’t supposed to be messin’ with it.
My family is part Creole, and we’re Indian, and we’re also very, very black. My father was so black, he was blue.

My heart is green, yellow, blue, and white.
My history has been to grow the roots as deeply as you can before going on to the next thing. That’s why it took 10 years to go from Union Square Cafe to Gramercy Tavern, and another 10 years to go from Blue Smoke’s first location to its second, and five to go from Shake Shack 1 to Shake Shack 2.
My hometown is a very boring city. There isn’t a lot of industry – there are a lot of trees. It’s not like Beijing where the sky is always dark. In my city the sky is blue and the sun shines.
My husband was very special and very funny and outspoken, and he would have a black and blue every so often because under the table, I’d say, ‘Don’t say that!’
My live show experience has not been good. It’s just because I haven’t had a band or anything. I played a show in Santa Ana that I’m just not proud of at all. It came out of the blue, and I kind of freaked out and took the opportunity because it was the biggest thing I’ve ever been offered.
My mom bought me a white Strat, but that wasn’t what I wanted, so I went to a guitar store in Cleveland and – the guy told me it was a really good deal – made an even swap for a blue Teisco Del Ray. I loved that guitar and used it a bunch.
My mother and I were born in Mieres, Asturias, the most beautiful region you’ll ever see in Europe and the home of Cabrales, a great blue cheese made in the Asturian mountains. When I was young, we moved to Barcelona. Whenever my mother was homesick for Asturias, she’d eat a little piece of Cabrales to bring her closer to Mieres.
My mother bought me a brand new suit for going away to college. We were poor, but she wanted me to have that. It was a powder blue suit with peg pants – you know, skinny at the bottom. I think I made quite an impression with that.

NBC’s pilot season of 1994 is legendary in the business. In a world where failure is commonplace, we midwifed the birth of both ‘Friends’ and ‘ER’. While ‘ER’ came essentially out of the blue, we’d been casting around for a ‘Friends’-like show for some time at the network.

Notting Hill?’ Does that poke fun at being British? Maybe it does. In ‘Mickey Blue Eyes,’ that’s kind of the point: the clash of worlds, the unlikely combo of a respectable Englishman and a mob guy. If you take out the Britishness, you don’t really have much.

One night, I lay awake for hours, just terrified. When the dawn finally came up – the comfortable blue sky, the familiar world returning – I could think of no other way to express my relief than through poetry. I made a decision there and then that it was what I wanted to do. Every time I pulled a wishbone, it was what I asked for.

Rather than have it the principal thing in my son’s mind, I would gladly have him think that the sun went round the earth, and that the stars were so many spangles set in the bright blue firmament.
Red, electric blue – the only color I don’t wear is green, which I still don’t wear. I wear certain color greens, but I have such yellow skin so I always like to wear bold colors.

Since the 1960s, mainstream media has searched out and co-opted the most authentic things it could find in youth culture, whether that was psychedelic culture, anti-war culture, blue jeans culture. Eventually heavy metal culture, rap culture, electronica – they’ll look for it and then market it back to kids at the mall.
Some calamities – the 1929 stock market crash, Pearl Harbor, 9/11 – have come like summer lightning, as bolts from the blue. The looming crisis of America’s Ponzi entitlement structure is different. Driven by the demographics of an aging population, its causes, timing and scope are known.

Stars that become supernovae start off at least eight times heavier than our sun. They’re so short-lived that, even if they have planets, there is unlikely to be time for life to get started. The surface is 40,000C and, as a result, the colouring will be extremely blue.
Starship Troopers was great. It was great fun to work on something with blue screens and big budget special effects. Denise Richards was nice to look at too, of course.

Sun-bleached bones were most wonderful against the blue – that blue that will always be there as it is now after all man’s destruction is finished.

The beauty of Maine is such that you can’t really see it clearly while you live there. The Blue Brain project expects to have a full human-scale simulation of the cerebral cortex by 2018. I think that’s a little optimistic, actually, but I do make the case that by 2029 we will have very detailed models and simulations of all the different brain regions.

The emphasis in ‘Notting Hill’ was perhaps, I thought, slightly more on the romance than on the comedy. But I think ‘Mickey Blue Eyes’ is maybe slightly more on the comedy. And the tone on ‘Mickey Blue Eyes,’ it’s a far sillier film.
The first record I bought was a Carl Perkins record, because I saw him at The Festival at Sandpoint, Idaho. I loved Elvis and I found out that he wrote ‘Blue Suede Shoes’… so connecting that experience of going to see him play was pretty awesome. That’s when I realised I wanted to play guitar.

The last few years have been my happiest. I’m happy in the years that most people are blue and sad and waiting to die. I don’t feel that a bit. Smiling has a lot to do with it. You can just lift your spirits by smiling a little bit.
The Left despises Texas, with its stellar record of job growth; Texas, with its strong support for traditional marriage and the sanctity of life; Texas, the root of the conservative tree. Should the Left succeed in its attempt to turn Texas purple, America could turn permanently blue.

The South is like my favorite pair of blue jeans. It’s shrunk some, faded a bit, got a few holes in it. it just might split at the seams. It doesn’t look much like it used to, but it’s more comfortable, and there’s probably a lot of wear left in it.

Thomas Pynchon looks exactly like Thomas Pynchon should look. He is tall, he wears lumberjack shirts and blue jeans. He has Albert Einstein white hair and Bugs Bunny front teeth.
Three months before he died, I began to steal things from my father’s house. I wandered around barefoot and slipped objects into my pockets. I took blush, toothpaste, two chipped finger bowls in celadon blue, a bottle of nail polish, a pair of worn patent-leather ballet slippers, and four faded white pillowcases the color of old teeth.
To different minds, poetry may present different phases. To me, the reverent faith of the people I lived among, and their faithful everyday living, was poetry; blossoms and trees and blue shies were poetry. God himself was poetry.
To me acting is like a jigsaw puzzle. The jigsaw puzzle is of the sky and all the pieces are blue. Out of this you have to create a human being and put it together.
To see the earth as it truly is, small and blue in that eternal silence where it floats, is to see riders on the earth together, brothers on that bright loveliness in the eternal cold – brothers who know now they are truly brothers.
To write a love song that might be able to make it on the radio, that is something that is terrifying to me. But I can definitely write a song about that chair over there. That I can do, but to sit and write a pop song out of the clear blue sky, that is very difficult and I admire the people that can do it.

Try to forget what objects you have before you – a tree, a house, a field, or whatever. Merely think, ‘Here is a little square of blue, here an oblong of pink, here a streak of yellow,’ and paint it just as it looks to you, the exact color and shape, until it gives you your own impression of the scene before you.
US presidents can make all the commitments and declarations they want until they are blue in the face, in the Muslim world they will always be perceived as partisan.

We can still do a stop motion feature for about one-third of what it costs Pixar or DreamWorks or Blue Sky to make a feature. But nobody is interested in a film that cost $50 to 60 million with the potential to do $120 million. They want to risk big money to make huge money.
We certainly grew up and had opportunities. But it’s not like our parents are aristocratic blue bloods.
We don’t often look into these unpleasant details of our great struggle. We all prefer to think that every man who wore the blue or gray was a Philip Sidney at heart.

We had no idea what we were in for when we started Blue Sky. We just had an idea of what we wanted to do. When we got to a point where it seemed impossible, we just kept doing it. After 18 years, we have a lot of it done.

We see the sea as this place of leisure and this place, you know, a blue patch on the map to fly over because we all go by plane these days, mostly. And we don’t really see it as a place of industry anymore.
We were all in love with the club. We went to bed with Sampdoria pajamas on, while going to the Bogliasco training ground in the morning was always a joy: the blue of the sea on one side, the green of the hills on the other. Wonderful.

When I became ‘The American Dream,’ they needed a hero down here. I had no money – I couldn’t buy a car without being tied under – but I had to have a Cadillac with blue stars on the hood no matter what it cost because just driving in it will set how they look at me and perceive this guy; they’ll know.

When I hit my 20s, I struggled to make it. I got married at 19, and my daughter, Je’Niece, was born a year later. I worked blue collar jobs during the day and comedy clubs at night, and I was earning about $25 a year doing stand-up.
When I look up and see the sun shining on the patch of white clouds up in the blue, I begin to think how it would feel to be up somewhere above it winging swiftly thought the clear air, watching the earth below, and the men on it, no bigger than ants.
When I made Blue Moon Swamp, there was a lot of trial and error; I was trying to find people who would be simpatico with my style, and with what I had in mind for the album.

When I was young, I was a sucker for smooth men. Bryan Ferry hired me, at 19, to be painted blue and dress up as a mermaid for the cover of his album ‘Siren.’ It was love at first sight.
When I wrote ‘Your Republic Is Calling You,’ it was Franz Kafka’s writing that I had most in mind, and James Joyce’s ‘Ulysses.’ Entirely out of the blue, Kafka’s characters receive an order to go somewhere, and when they try to comply, they never quite manage it. Ki-yong in ‘Your Republic Is Calling You’ is precisely that sort of character.
When narratives fracture, when words fail, I take consolation from the part of my life that always works: the stationery order. The mail-order stationery people supply every need from royal blue Quink to a dazzling variety of portable hard drives.
When people are infected by my charm, they don’t see my size. My piercing deep blue eyes are distracting.
When ‘Rookie Blue’ began, I was so proud to be a Canadian on a Canadian show that was getting fans in America. I’m so used to working on American projects with Americans, it was a big deal for me to be on a show that showcases our talent… our ‘peeps.’
When the going gets tough in Washington, presidents appoint ‘blue ribbon’ commissions.
When ‘The Thin Blue Line’ came out, I was criticized by many people for using reenactments, as if I wasn’t dedicated to the truth because I filmed these scenes. That always and still seems to be nonsensical.
When we distributed the paper and crayons, they were fighting over the blue crayon. Everyone wanted to start with the blue, and that was the water. One drawing shows the trees under water. I was really moved.
When you get up, the night and day is a contradiction. But you get up at 4 A.M. That first blush of blue is where the night and day are trying to find harmony with each other. Harmony is the notes that Mozart didn’t give you, but somehow the contradiction of his notes suggest that. All contradictions of his notes suggest the harmony.
When you look at the light bulb above you, you remember Thomas Alva Edison. When the telephone bell rings, you remember Alexander Graham Bell. Marie Curie was the first woman to win the Nobel Prize. When you see the blue sky, you think of Sir C.V. Raman.

When you’re in a fighter jet and there’s a dark layer of clouds with just one blue hole with the sun going through it, you shoot for that hole. Where would I be without Johann Strauss’s beautiful ‘Blue Danube?’ Without this piece of music I wouldn’t be the man I am today. It’s a tune that brings out the emotion in everyone and makes them want to waltz.

Without a doubt, one of my favorite American ingredients is blue crabs, a true delicacy! And a great value, I think.
Working on ‘NYPD Blue’ and ’24’, those two series, I did full runs on those. It’s great work, but everything has to align. The producers have to want you; the network has to want you; there has to be great writing; and it’s not as easy as it may appear to the outsiders to make all those things align.

You just have to be classy at the end of the day. That doesn’t mean you can’t go with a midnight blue tux. And if you can find a deep red tux that looks classy and classic, I think you can pull it off.
You know, I got the third most uninsured district in the whole state of Texas, probably number nine in the whole country. As a Blue Dog, I’m also looking at the cost. So, I have got a very unique district.
